How to go to Murano from Venice

To get to Murano from Venice you can take vaporetto number 42 at the San Zaccaria port, located near the San Marcos Square or the DM (Diretto Murano), if you are staying near Piazzale Roma. These boats have a frequency of 20 to 30 minutes and take between 30 and 40 minutes to reach Murano, depending on the stops.
Keep in mind that the price of the vaporetto is 7.5 euros per trip, so this day it will be profitable to buy this 24-hour ticket, to save money.

You can also reach Murano from Marco Polo airport, taking the red or blue line of the Alilaguna, in case you want to go directly from the airport.

When boarding the vaporetto we recommend you sit in the front or back to enjoy the views when you leave Venice and when you pass in front of the island of Saint Michele, also called "The island of the dead", for being the historical cemetery of Venice.

Another great option to know the history and save time for this day is to book this excursion to Murano and Burano by boat or this excursion that also includes the island of Torcello, both with a guide in Spanish and considered two of the best excursions in Venice.

What to see in Murano

Upon reaching the island of Murano, famous worldwide for its glass, you can stroll along the banks of its canals with beautiful houses and palaces. During the walk you will see numerous shops and glass factories, which moved from Venice to this city for fear of the fires that could cause their furnaces and that today have become a symbol.
Although it is not essential, it is interesting to enter one of the factories to see how the glass works by hand if you have never seen this process and also, take advantage to take some memory.
It is also worth visiting the Crystal Museum, including if you have the Venezia Unica City Pass, where you will take a tour of the history of this material and you will see impressive pieces made of Murano glass. The museum's visiting hours are from 10am to 6pm and in winter it closes one hour before.
